Town of Rossville Website Privacy Policy
Effective date: 10/20/26
Our Promise to You
The Town of Rossville runs this website (townofrossville.com) to share news, meeting information, documents, and services with our residents and visitors. We respect your privacy. This policy explains, in plain language, what information the website collects, how it is used, and the choices you have.
What We Collect
We try to collect as little as possible. Here is what happens when you visit:
- Basic visit information. Like almost every website, our web host keeps standard server logs. These record your IP address, the type of browser you use, the pages you visit, and the time of your visit. The host uses these logs to keep the site secure and running properly.
- Information you choose to send us. If you contact us through a form or email, we receive the information you provide, such as your name, email address, and message. We use it only to respond to you and handle your request.
We do not ask you to create an account to use this website.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Right now:
- Our website does not currently use analytics or advertising cookies or trackers.
- Our homepage does not set any cookies.
- Town staff who log in to manage the website receive a functional login cookie. This does not apply to the public.
- The accessibility toolbar (OneTap) may save your display preferences, such as text size or contrast, in your browser so they stay in place as you move around the site. This information stays in your browser and you can clear it at any time through your browser settings.
Because we do not currently use non-essential cookies, you will not see a cookie banner on our site.
Services From Other Companies
- Google Fonts. Our website loads its fonts from Google. When your browser downloads these fonts, your IP address is sent to Google. Google’s own privacy policy applies to that information.
- Facebook. We link to the Town’s Facebook page. Facebook is a separate site with its own privacy policy.
- Online bill payment (NexBillPay). When you pay a bill online, you leave our website and go to NexBillPay, a third-party payment service. Your payment information is handled by NexBillPay under its own privacy policy, not by this website.
We encourage you to read the privacy policies of any outside site you visit.
Possible Future Changes
The Town may add Google Search Console and Google Analytics to help us understand how the website is used and improve it.
- Google Search Console helps us see how our site appears in Google search results. It does not place cookies on visitors’ browsers.
- Google Analytics: If we add it, we will first update this policy and add a cookie consent tool. That tool will let you accept or decline non-essential cookies before they load. We will also honor browser privacy signals (such as Global Privacy Control) where supported.
We Do Not Sell Your Information
The Town of Rossville does not sell personal information.
Public Records
The Town is a government body. Information you send to the Town, including emails and messages, may be considered a public record and may be open to public inspection under the Tennessee Public Records Act (T.C.A. § 10-7-503), unless a legal exception applies. Please keep this in mind before sending sensitive personal information.
Children’s Privacy
This website is meant for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Keeping Information Safe
We take reasonable steps to protect the website and the information it handles. However, no website or internet connection is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time, for example if we add new tools to the website. When we do, we will post the updated version on this page and change the effective date at the top.
